Music and Power?
| dr(txtHeading02(unescape(’SILVERCHAIR : 19 OCT 2006 SILVERCHAIR%20TO%20PAY%20TRIBUTE%20TO%20MIDNIGHT%20OIL ‘)))
SILVERCHAIR have confirmed media reports that they will perform at the 2006 ARIA Awards, brought to you by Motorola, on SUNDAY OCTOBER 29TH at ACER ARENA and televised exclusively on NETWORK TEN from 7.30pm. The Newcastle trio will perform a MIDNIGHT OIL song on the night as part of that legendary band’s induction into the Aria Hall of Fame. SILVERCHAIR have sold over six million albums worldwide and enjoyed more top 40 singles in the last decade than any other Australian band. The group’s highly anticipated new album will be released in early 2007 but they have interrupted work on that to prepare for this special ARIA Award’s appearance. According to the band’s frontman Daniel Johns, sharing a stage with the Oils at the “Waveaid” tsunami benefit was one of the main catalysts behind SILVERCHAIR’s decision to return to the studio this year. It’s therefore appropriate that the group’s first television appearance in four years will be one that honors MIDNIGHT OIL. “The invitation to pay tribute to the Oils was just too good to refuse”, said Daniel Johns. “They are true musical pioneers and one of the greatest Australian artists of all time.” MIDNIGHT OIL’s success, changed the Australian music scene and paved the way for bands that don’t fit the traditional stereotypes. They have made a career out of making noise about the important issues. They brought a new sense of political and social immediacy to pop music with incendiary hits like Beds Are Burning and Blue Sky Mine, which brought global attention to the issues of, respectively, Aboriginal land rights and asbestos workers. MIDNIGHT OIL always put its money where its mouth was - in addition to staging benefit performances for groups like Greenpeace and Save the Whales, former singer Peter Garrett is now fighting from the frontline as a Member of Parliament for the Federal Labour Party in the NSW seat of Kingsford-Smith .(Taken from musichead.com) Girls - What are the advantages of voicing opinions and points of view through music? In addition to Midnight Oil, do you know of any other musicians that use their popularity to spread a message or help others? |

Everyone likes music and they are always listening to it. If the song is catchy people will like it and remember the message in the song.

1. I think that the advantages of using music to show points of view and imporatant issues is that if really, really famous people write the songs, people listen to their new songs and will actualy accept that it really needs to happen and we need to make a stand with the people who actually need money, and food, and shelter.
2. Aswell as Midnight Oil, i only know of P!nk who uses music to voice thier opinions, P!nk wrote the song ‘Dear Mr President’, and you can tell by the title of the song that it is about the wrong things that the president of the U.S.A has done and the wrong decisions he has made.

It makes people listen to what you have to say.
When they put it into song people take it in and it’s easier to listen to.

Hello Earthlings,
Voicing your opinions through music is a great way to relate with people in the real world. Everyone has feelings and music with emotions makes people listen and feel the music in a way that they have felt before.

Well as a matter of fact i do. Pink spreads a message in ‘ Dear Mr president’ and also other songs. Also the person who sings ‘Working class hero’ (don’t know the artist) and many other songs that i can’t remeber the name of.

It’s good to have thoughts and points in music because
more people will listen and if you have a CD of the music
you can play it over and over again and try to understand
what they are saying. I hope Iam doing this right!

people listen to music very often and when they like a song they will want to learn the lyrics and they will sing it all the time.
P!NK made a song called dear mr president its about how he doesnt care about anyone but him self like the people on the streets and when mothers dont have a chance to say goodbye and stuff like that
on August 20th, 2007 at 9:23 pm
Hey Miss A.
This is my answer for the first question;
The advantage voicing your opinon through song is that people listen to songs on the radio. If more and more people hear the song and understand the lyrics then they could make a difference by changing something. If the song becomes popular then more and more people are going to try and change things.
And for you second question;
As you probably know Pink has a song called Dear Mr President. She says that they are her facts and polital statements put into a song. Another band which i cant remeber what they’re called but they have a song about what we have done to the world. I think it called What We’ve Done.
Anyway, that’s all i have to say so,
Bye… Rachael

For the first question:
If you are famous Musian or Singer most of your fans would belive you. In a song it can be catchy and some people might remember the song and remember what they might be singing about. You could also let people know your feelings by the way you play eg; you play loud and ruff if your angry and if you are happy you play soft and gental!
For the secound question:
Pink, Red Hot Chilli Pepppers and I am haviong trouble thinking of any more.
on August 20th, 2007 at 9:30 pm
For the first qustion I think that the more people will here it the more it will be known and then the more it is known the more the message will spread. People might think the way you sing it is really good and remember it and then start singing it too.
also it might get really popular and people might start to do things about the problems. Lastly it might go on TV and then people will see it and think about and might do something to do about the problems our world has.
For the second qustion I think Pink might be one like the song dear mister president but I am sure there others but I don’t know.

The advantages are letting the country/world how you feel about something or someone so they will get to know you better.
Still Emily:
Another musicians: P!nk - Dear Mr President
I am not sure of any others but I do know that this guy on Australian Idol sang about what he felt and I dont think it went so well.

Hi,
I think that the advantages of voicing opinions through music would be that others get to see the way you feel about the world and maybe others would feel the same way or if they don’t, it might make them think a lot more about your song and try to do something about the problems in the world that you’ve sung about in the song.
I also know two singers/bands that use there popularity to send a message to others. They are Pink and Green Day.
on August 20th, 2007 at 11:01 pm
i think that the advantage of voicing you opinion by using a song is that more people will listen to it and they will start to like the song and learn it off by heart and then realise the lyrics and if the person who sings is really famous then they could probably get alot of people to sponser or help or change the thing that they are singing about.
um i think that Missy Higgins
uses her music to get her message through
and also U2

I think the advantages of voicing opinions is special because you can share your opinions with other people and tell them how you feel.

Hi,
The advantages of voicing your opinions and points of view through music are that if you wrote a song about your friends/family then the world or country would all know about it. They would get to know you much better and it could help your relationship.

The advantages of voicing opinions and points of view through music are:
Music is listen to everywhere eg. in the car, when your getting ready, when their working, when your falling asleep, etc. meaning that message gets through to more people then if you just go & tell someone
Singers are looked up to by many people meaning that if your role model tells people to stop polluting the earth more people are more likely to stop polluting the earth
Some of the musicans that use the popularity to spread a message are:
P!nk, Madonna, Missy Higgens, U2 & Bon Jovi.
on August 20th, 2007 at 11:16 pm
The advantages of voicing opinions and points of view through music are that lots of people listen to music from babies through to elderly so it would be more well known from say a book cause so people can’t be bothered or don’t have time to read a book but everyone can listen to the radio while they drive or do something. You can’t rewad a book while driving can you? Also the song would most likely be put on the radio and everyone can listen to the radio in their home, car or shopping place. Also the radio is free so more people will listen to something that they don’t have to pay for. Lastly singers normally put the words that will change something with a beat or song so it gets stuck in peoples heads so they are more likely to remember it and do something to help.
Some bands are: Silver Chair, U2, John Buttler Trio, Missy Higgens, Eskimo Joe, Maroon Five, Black Eyed Peas, Coldplay, The Killers, and P!NK

Hi,
The advantages of voicing opinions and points of view through music is that people like the men in Midnight Oil can express their opinions through something they love to do. And they would get alot of money for it. Also everyone would get to know them more.
