    Bourke’s (in the Murray Darling region) population has dropped in the past three years from 3,500 to less than 3,000. Shops on the main street are boarded up and houses are for sale.

    Why is the population declining in outback Australia - would you want to live there?

    Broken Hill is 220 metres above sea level and it has an average rainfall of 235 mm and summer temperatures that hit well over 40° C. The cliamte can be very hot.
